The AthensWas, a Design Hotels property, was opened in April 2015 and is situated in one of Athens’ most ancient neighborhoods, offering a classic modernist feel with its nod to mid-century details and ancient Greek architecture. The hotel, which stands in the foothills of the Acropolis, was designed by Stavros Papayiannis of Stage Design Office to be a fresh approach to Greek design.
Slick and contemporary, but with an unpretentious atmosphere, this hotel will appeal to lovers of 20th century designer furniture. Throughout the hotel you can find furniture by legendary designers, like Le Corbusier, Ettore Sottsass and Michael Graves. The modest hotel houses 21 rooms and suites, which incorporate warm walnut elements and prints of sculptures and artifacts from the National Archaeological Museum.
The Modern bar & restaurant proposes a different, contemporary and light approach to Greek cuisine with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. Lunch is served at the hotel’s ground-floor area, while in the evening a unique space on the 6th floor, with a beautiful view of the Acropolis, is open for idyllic dinners and signature cocktails at the bar. Rooms start at €160/night for a Classic based on Advance Purchase rates and up to €790 for the Hellenic Grande Suite. Expect mid range rooms to start at €210-€320/night.
