Contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has joined forces with Akita-based NEXT5 brewing unit to produce a limited edition range of Junmai Daiginjo sake. The special range features bottles designed by the artist filled with a unique brew of sake.
The artist has created four limited edition bottles – one original glass bottle and three original ceramic bottles – to package the beverage. Each design features murakami’s signature anime-style flowers in both graphic and relief motifs.
As Japan’s national alcohol, sake has been undergoing an identity crisis in recent years with the younger generation preferring Western beers or whiskies instead. This project with the should do much to raise the profile of sake within youth culture.
The custom-designed sake set by Takashi Murakami x NEXT5 will be sold from Bar Zingaro from July 2 onwards.
